Venetian inspired Art Frames by Christoph Medwed

It all starts with Murano Glass. On my regular trips to Venice, I take the Vaporetto Linea 4.1 or 5.1 from the Fondamente Nove to Murano. For a few years now I established a friendship with a renowned Glass Manufacturer who fabricates hand drawn Glass Rods. On every trip, different colors and sizes are available. Fascinating colors, so translucent yet powerful.

Once I pick the right colors, my imagination runs wild on how to display this precious material. Immediately I visualize the Art Frame, how I will shape the Brass to suit the Glass. Every color I dedicate to a location within the Lagoon, within the reach of the Serenissima- Venezia.

The Greens I picked this time led me to the Lido di Venezia. The Lido is also where I reside while in Venice. Amazed by the Architecture and the lush Gardens, I designed the corner elements to reflect both. Sitting on the waves of the Adriatic Sea to the left and a gentler ripple of the Lagoon to the right, the two bottom elements rise to a level of the Foundation. The two upper elements are created in an organic manner, depicting the tree crowns shaped by the sun and wind. The very top of the Art Frame emits a sense of openness to allow the light to enter.

I handcrafted this Art Frame straight out of my thoughts and inspirations, took every step of work driven by my fantasy.
